In his quest to grasp the world on a universal scale, the Senegalese artist embraces monumental formats to convey the rhizomatic proliferation of the plant world and its ability to develop new survival strategies. Human and animal figures emerge from within a lush, protective, and resilient Nature, drawing the viewer into an immersive experience.
Soly Cissé calls for a redefined relationship between humans and animals, envisioning a renewed society where the victims of climate disasters are already the casualties of a globalized economy. Rooted in his personal history—an experience that lends his work a unique depth—Cissé approaches the environment beyond his native land, imagining it as a shared community where humans and animals coexist. For him, new ecological practices must be accompanied by new forms of solidarity.
A unique format (210 x 297 mm), these collages depict a universe of both playful and unsettling figures—plagued by the violence of contemporary society—in a dynamic interplay of scale shifts and complex spatial dislocations within the confines of the page.
